
What is USB Gecko?
USB gecko is 3rd Party Memory Card Interface Adapter
which allows homebrew and hobbyist developers the ability
to connect their Gamecube(TM) or Wii(TM) console to
there PC which has a USB 2.0 Port.
What are the advantages of having such device?
With PC connectivity, it allows remote access to your
programs, so you can do things like disassemble and
watch memory activity all in real time. The product
also has an open source API and examples which allows
developers to create their own software and tools.
Can this run Wii homebrew?
Yes. The adapter can run on Wii in Wii Mode and Gamecube
mode. The new Twilight
Princess Chain Loader will allow you to load homebrew
files from it, without a Modchip. We do have the adapter
working well in native Wii mode and you can download
the test application here.
What is Geckotool?
Gecko Tool is an ongoing software and firmware which
developed in house to show what can actually be done
with the product, It includes things like disassembler,
memory poke, breakpoints, extract DVDs, manage memory
cards, grab screen shots from games and homebrew ect.
This is free software and software updates will be available
regular in the download area. This tool will only work
in windows currectly, but porting the API to other platforms
is in progress.
My Screen Display 'No USB Gecko Found'?
Please make sure the USB Gecko is plugged in the Gamecube
Memory Card Port B, if the memory card is in
Port A it won't detect. If plugged in correctly the
TV screen will display 'Waiting for PC Command'
I burned the loader but it doesn't
run?
You need a Modchip if your running a DVD-R burned ISO.
The Gamecube Mode ISO's are for users with modchips
installed.
Can this play backup games?
No this device is not a piracy device and never will
be. The device is aimed at developers,
programmers and also hobbyist Gamecube and Wii enthusiasts.
Can I connect a Hard Disc to this?
No it is just for PC to Wii/Gamecube connectivity.
Can I save my games to USB Gecko?
No. The USB on-board flash is used for storing the
firmware and other loaders and programs for future use.
However with Geckotool you can download, upload, delete
Gamecube Game Saves to a memory card in Port A, this
supports popular formats such as GCI and GCS (Gameshark)
Saves.

Is it upgradable?
Yes all software is upgradable and releases are planned
to be released on a regular basis.
Can it run on a unmodified console.
To run it on a unmodified console you will need an
old version of action replay, or SD media launcher by
Datel for the Gamecube Mode version. For the Native
Wii Version, it will just require the Twilight Princess
game and the Chain Loader Save. The Native Wii version
is however work in progress, but will be updated weekly.
I have a X modification chip in my console can i run
USB Gecko with this?
Yes you can run

What is a Hook?
A hook is a piece of code which gets called every frame
or every two frames and executing, it interrupts the
normal control flow allowing our code to run there.
Can this Extract Dual Layer DVDs?
Yes from version 0.49 it can extract D9 (Dual Layer
Media)
What other features are planned for this product?
We have many new features like cheat function, trainer,
and also Wii features which will all be added in later
firmware releases.
Will there be a different version of
Gecko Firmware for Wii Mode and Gamecube Mode?
Yes we will release the Gamecube version as an ISO,
DOL and the True Wii version as an .ELF to work with
the Twilight
Princess Chain Loader. This is due to the internal
registers and the way Wii internals work are alot different
in Wii mode.
Does USB Gecko work with latest firmware
and menu updates?
Yes currently works with all updates, but please check
the forums before updating. The
latest update was in Smash Bros Brawl Game, and Wii
Menu Update 3.2.
I can't Extract Games larger than 4GB
If your using a FAT or FAT32 formatted hard drive,
this will be the problem as there is a 4GB limit. You
will need an NFTS formatted hard drive to avoid this
problem
If i want something added, how do i
suggest it?
If you want something adding just suggest it in the
forum, from this I make a list and work too it for future
release, sometimes a feature can take time to add, but
it will go in, as long as its legal.
Does USB Gecko work with my Operating
System?
USB Gecko so far is working on Windows XP SP1, SP2,
2000, Vista. Mac and Linux port is being worked on.
'Once' Gecko tool has been ported to a multi platform
API, all platform version of the tool will be released.
