| USB Gecko allows you to Extract (Rip) the
full contents of your Gamecube and Wii games to the PC to
an unscrambled ISO image. Users can then use 3rd party tools
to explore there original game contents. The Gecko DVD ripper
supports Gamecube, Single Layer DVD and Dual Layer DVD(SSBB
is the only current DVD Dual Layer Game).
Some Technical information you need
to know:
The Wii can rip a game in either Gamecube mode or in Wii
Mode (i.e loaded from the Homebrew Channel). However both
methods have advantages and disadvantages, which I will
point out below:
Gamecube Mode: (Advantages):
Don't need to install any additional files on your
Wii Consoles.
Doesn't require Zelda Twilight Princess.
Gamecube Mode (Disadvantages):
To run Gamecube homebrew code on Gamecube you will
need a modchip, (currently).
Wii Mode (Advantages):
Doesn't Require a modchip. Don't need to void your
console warranty.
Software can be run directly from the Homebrew Channel.
Seems to be slight faster, and less prone to checksum errors.
Wii Mode (Disadvantages):
Required to install a modified system file which
removes ripping restriction (can later be removed however)
This Guide will focus only on the Gamecube mode version,
If you looking for a Wii mode ripper, you can check out
this 3rd party ripper
which was coded by one of our forums members (comes also
with source code).
How to Extract your Games:
1. Download Gecko
DVD PC executable and also download the GeckoOS 1.6d
fixed ISO for your region. Both of these downloads can always
be found in the download section
of the forum.
2. Burn the Gecko OS v1.06d fixed ISO
to a DVD-R you have just downloaded using Imgeburn.
Here is a guide on burning
ISO files by Memorris.
3. Now insert your DVD you have just burned,
go to the disc options and boot the game as you would any
other Gamecube DVD. Once loaded you will get a screen like
below. (Version number may alter, please don't worry)

4. Now eject the Gecko OS
DVD with the Original Game you want to extract.
5. Now you will need to open the Gecko
DVD application you have downloaded and run this. Once this
application is open, go to the top menu bar and connect
the device. The adapter status at the bottom of the program
dialog will then show as connected.
Now all you do is select the type of Game type you require
and click the 'Extract DVD' button. Below picture shows
an example of a Gamecube DVD being extracted with Gecko
DVD.
Now on the your Wii or Gamecube screen, you
will see a white progress bar, once this bar fills, the
extraction will be finished!.
Important things to Note:
1. If you get a packet retry
message, this is not an error, it is just stating it is
resend that USB packet again (retry).
2. Some D2pro chips with older firmwares
may freeze when extract starts. Updating your D2Pro firmware
often fixes this issue. (This is NOT a USB Gecko Problem).
3. If you are using a Wasabi Modchip, you
may get constant checksum errors at address 12aab. You will
have to stop the extraction. The image however will be fine.
This seems to problem with the Wasabi drive code in Gamecube
mode, as in Wii Mode it is fine. This is not a big issue
and your Game will still be complete and just missing some
end bytes.
